In 2016 UK-based Jacobs Media and the Travel Weekly Group launched the Global Resilience Summit. With the might and reach of the company’s high profile, international speakers, government officials and businesses were brought together to share best practices and lessons learned related to preparedness and crisis management. Topics rarely discussed in travel industry open forums.
Following positive responses from the tourism industry, countries across the world requested hosting a thought leadership event, tailored to specifics from their own markets. In 2018 the first regional event was launched in Amman, Jordan. Annual events take place every November, around the World Travel Market in London. In 2019, additional regional events were hosted in Kathmandu, Nepal, and Johannesburg, South Africa.
Jacobs Media Group (parent of Travel Weekly Group) continues to address the handling of crises faced by the travel industry, in the hope that its suppliers and travellers will learn from previous events to improve preparedness, recover or thrive as a result. By looking at this difficult topic across industries and regions, the Resilience Council aims to build traveller confidence and strengthen tourism markets.
